'We found that airline tickets booked over the weekend resulted in savings of about 20% or more, and Sunday was the perfect day to book flights for the last two years' said Christie Hudson, Communications Manager at Expedia, North America.

According to the report, try to book a Sunday more than 21 days before the trip. (We are waiting for you to mark your calendars accordingly.)
"It's almost never the case that airline tickets are cheaper as the day of the trip gets closer," Hudson says. "Our data suggests that you want to book at least 30 days in advance to avoid last-minute bonuses."

So, what days should you avoid organizing your flights? According to the report, the most expensive tickets tend to be booked on Thursdays and Fridays. Here are several secrets to getting the best airfare possible.

Is Tuesday's theory ever true?

Many factors affect air fares, including the destination's popularity and season. The idea that Tuesday was the best day to buy airline tickets for your air travel would go back to the time when airlines would pay their new prices on Tuesdays.
"' But it was a long time ago,'" Hudson says. "When it comes to our data, there is no doubt that this information is no longer true in two years." Don't miss these signs, you pay too much for your air ticket.

When should you travel for the cheapest flights?

"Many business trips take place between Monday and Friday, so if you add a weekend or two to the trip, you're probably saving money," Hudson says. According to the data, the extra Saturday night can save you about 25% of the sum of a return trip on weekdays. First, though, check out the 13 things you didn't know about travel sites online.

Finally, consider the basic economy. Most airlines now offer the cheapest and cheapest option, which does not include checked-in luggage for free or lets you choose your seat. Just be aware that this may be better for you in some situations than others.
"I sometimes book Basic Economy if I travel alone and the flight is short and I keep doing it," says Hudson. "But if it's a long-haul flight or you're traveling with your family and want to sit together, this may not be the best option."

Relax with a cup of coffee Sunday afternoon and plan your next well-deserved getaway. Wherever you are, it's time to book. Just remember to avoid these holiday mistakes when you arrive at your destination.
